Pakistani doctors cross another milestone – successfully make history by twinning twins


According to details, Merab and Manahel were born six months ago at Holy Family Hospital. The spinalcord and anus of these two beautiful girls were connected to each other.

Doctors diagnosed his problem as ”Pygopagus congenital twins”.

Due to the spinal cord and anal canal being attached to the torso of these girls, a team of specialist doctors operated on them and planned to dissect the torso and the operation was considered.
After which this important operation was performed at Holy Family Hospital.
An anesthesia team comprising Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Ayesha headed by Prof. Jawad Zaheer gave anesthesia to the patients.

The neurosurgery team of DHQ Hospital Rawalpindi played an important role in this operation.

A team led by Prof.Nadeem Akhtar comprising of Asstt. Professor Dr. Yasir Shehzad and Senior Resident Dr. Mudassar Abbas Siddique , successfully dissected and reconstructed the spinal cord.
After the operation, when the children came out of the anesthesia, their lower limbs were moving, which shows that the operation was successful.

The Pediatric Surgery Department of Holy Family Hospital, headed by Dr. Mudassar Gondal and comprising Dr. Osama and Dr. Jawad, also played an important role.

The team of doctors re-examined the patients and declared the condition of the two girls to be better and expressed hope that they would recover soon.
The operation lasted for about five and a half hours and the result was astonishing.
During the operation, the doctors successfully separated the girls and fixed the anal canal.
