ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Monday said the name of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president, Shehbaz Sharif had been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) after the approval of federal cabinet.A sub-committee of the federal cabinet had recommended to place Shehbaz’s name on the ECL last week following request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the minister told journalists here. Addressing a press conference on Monday morning, he said Shehbaz Sharif could not travel abroad after his name being placed on the ECL as he was facing multiple corruption references filed by the NAB. As the United Kingdom (UK) has imposed a travel ban on Pakistan, Shehbaz was supposed to fly via Qatar for London, he informed.
“Five people from Sharif family are on the run after the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case. If Shehbaz leaves now he will never return just like his brother, ” the minister observed. The minister said all the co-accused in NAB reference were already placed on ECL, adding that” If Shehbaz wants he can file a review petition within 15 days.”The case against Shehbaz Sharif involved a colossal sum of over Rs.7 billion, therefore like his brother [Nawaz Sharif] if he absconded his extradition from the UK would not be possible, he added.The PML-N president, he said had breached his undertaking as a guarantor in the past to the Lahore High Court that he would bring his brother back to the country.He said no data was available with the ministry from which it could be assessed that Shehbaz Sharif required medical treatment which was not available in the country. The minister noted that opposition can do no harm to Imran Khan as he was focused on his mission to bring country out of crisis.To a query, Rashid said the entire Islamic world was mourning over the situation in Gaza, adding that a resolution would be tabled in the National Assembly to discuss the prevailing tense situation in Palestine.The civil and military leadership were on the same page and playing due role for country’s progress and prosperity, he said in response to another question DM correspondent.He praised the role of China for convening United Nations Security Council meeting over the Israel-Palestine conflict. More over the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Shehbaz Sharif on Monday filed a contempt of court plea in the Lahore High Court (LHC) for not allowing him to travel abroad. On Friday, the Lahore High Court granted one-time permission to the PML-N leader to travel abroad for medical treatment, but he was offloaded by the FIA immigration authorities. The opposition leader has made the federal government and Director General Federal Investigation Agency (DG-FIA) Wajid Zia the respondent in his plea. The plea filed through Amjad Pervez and Azam Nazir Tarar advocate in the LHC stated that Shehbaz Sharif was allowed by the high court to travel abroad for treatment, but he was stopped at the airport by the FIA immigration counter. The LHC has been asked to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the officials for not complying with the court orders. Earlier, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif was offloaded from a Qatar-bound flight at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore.The Lahore High Court in its conditional permission allowed Shahbaz Sharif to go abroad from May 08 to July 05. The court in its six-page written order said that Shehbaz could not be barred from travelling abroad even if his name is on the blacklist. His name is currently not on the ECL, the court had said in its order while adjourning the hearing of the case for July 05.Earlier Federal Cabinet, on the recommendation of the anti-graft watchdog, has put PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL).The Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, in a tweet, said that with the approval of the cabinet and completion of all legal formalities, the name of Shehbaz has been added to the ECL.“The relevant record has been updated in this regard,” he added.The Federal Cabinet had approved the inclusion of the PML-N leader’s name to the ECL through a circulation during Eid holidays after a request forwarded by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).Sharing details of the decision, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said he [Shehbaz Sharif] was put on the ECL as it would be difficult to bring him back if he is allowed to go abroad like Nawaz Sharif.“Shahbaz Sharif is the guarantor of Nawaz Sharif,” the interior minister said. Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said Shehbaz can file an appeal against the decision in the Interior Ministry within 15 days.“Nawaz Sharif did not return how Shahbaz Sharif will return.”All the relevant agencies have been informed regarding the development, he further said.

NAB Reference bearing ACR No.22/2020 hoving been finalized, the trial thereof is in progress. however, the exit of Mion Muhammad Shohboz Shari( from Pakistan would delay proceedings in the trial
The case against Mion Muharnmoci Shahboz Shorif involves a colossal sum of over Rs7 billion. Therefore, like his brother, if Mion Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif absconds, his extradition from the UK will not be possible
Family members and co-accused in the NAB reference, who are members and associates of Mian Shehbaz Sharif, are also absconding and residing in the UK;
The accused may tamper with the evidence or dispose of his assets in the UK;
In the post Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has breached his undertaking to the Lahore High Court that he would bring his brother back to the country;
No dispensation to appear has been sought from the Trial Court nor a pleader has been appointed for the purposes of the trial;
All other accused persons are on the ECL, hence the dictates of Article 25 of the Constitution supports Mian Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif’s nome to be placed on the ECL by way of equol treatment:
No data is available from which it could be assessed that Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sherif requires medical treatment which is not available in Pakistan.
The Federal Investigation Agency on May 7th Saturday barred Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif from leaving for Doha, Qatar.
According to details, the FIA staff stopped Shahbaz Sharif on immigration counter at the Allama Iqbal International Airport and informed him that his name is still on black list in their record. Shahbaz Sharif was scheduled to depart for Doha from Lahore, where he was expected to stay for 10 to 15 days. From Doha, the PML-N leader was scheduled to leave for London. Mr justice Ali Baqir Najfi announced the ruling on the former Punjab chief minister’s petition seeking exclusion of his name from the blacklist. Justice Ali Baqar Najafi passed the orders on a petition filed by Shahbaz Sharif for removing his name from blacklist.The court allowed Shahbaz Sharif one-time visit to United Kingdom from May 8th to July 5th for medical check-up, besides seeking reply from respondents. Shahbaz Sharif is a cancer patient and was going to London for treatment. According to sources; preparations were underway on an emergency basis for Shahbaz Sharif s departure abroad where the PML-N president will undergo a medical examination by his doctor in London on May 22.
Earlier, Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday allowed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Shahbaz Sharif to go abroad.
The PML-N president was told he could not leave the country until the system was updated.
